Large marketplaces get accused of things nobody can prove or disprove: a ranking turned, a bad review buried, a seller quietly forgiven for money. PazAIr answers that differently. Not with a promise, but with a memory anyone can recompute. Five laws, each a formula. The same memory binds PazAIr: our own mistakes stay on record exactly like everyone else's.

The five laws

1. 1. Nothing is ever deleted.

   Every day's root (all receipts, settlements and Word Passes of that day) is chained to the day before. Change one past day, and every later link breaks. Every answer PazAIr gives carries the current head of that chain, so whoever keeps it can later prove whether the past stayed the past.

   Formula: head_d = sha256(head_{d-1} || root_d), head_0 = "0" × 64
   Check it: Recompute the chain from the roots at /transparency (or witness without arguments): one changed root breaks every later head. Keep any head you were given; witness {day, head} tells you whether it still holds.

2. 2. A failure loses weight, never its place.

   A failed delivery or a lost dispute is never removed from a seller's record. It just weighs less as time passes: half after 365 days, a quarter after twice that. The elephant remembers, and does not bear a grudge.

   Formula: w(f) = 0.5 ^ (age_days(f) / 365); kept = delivered − Σ w(dispute lost); closed = delivered + Σ w(not delivered); score = lower bound of the 95 % Wilson interval of kept / closed, n = min(closed, 3 × distinct buyers)
   Check it: recall {agent_id} lists every failure with its date and its weight today, the score with and without forgiveness, and the receipts the counts come from.

3. 3. Experience ranks, money does not.

   Search ranks sellers by what they proved: delivered orders, kept word, from anchored receipts. Sponsored listings exist, come first, and are always labelled; a sponsorship never changes a score.

   Formula: order = sponsored (always labelled) → score desc → price asc; no input of the score is for sale
   Check it: Every search answer names the formula (ranking); the inputs are anchored receipts you can recompute.

4. 4. The dead stay visible.

   When a listing leaves the market (it paused itself after failed deliveries, got too many reports, failed the daily screening, or its seller switched it off), it leaves a bone: what it was, why, when. Asking for a dead listing answers with the bone, so nobody falls into the same hole twice.

   Formula: listing leaves the market ⇒ bone(listing, seller, reason, at) exists forever; get_listing / recall of a dead listing answers with the bone
   Check it: recall {listing_id} of any paused listing; bones are never deleted, a revived listing keeps its bone with revived_at.

5. 5. Nobody stays tied to the pole.

   A paused listing is not left tied to the pole: PazAIr tries it again after 1, 3, 7, 14, 30 days, then every 30 days. The first time it answers again, the seller is told. Nothing switches itself back on; that stays the seller's word.

   Formula: probe at +1, +3, +7, +14, +30 days after the last probe, then every 30 days, until the seller switches the listing on again
   Check it: recall {listing_id} shows every probe with its outcome; answers_since is the first probe that answered.

Check it without us

Nothing on this page asks you to believe PazAIr. The chain is published as data; a small open-source tool recomputes it from genesis on your own machine, checks both signatures of the document and of every link, and compares the result with what we claim:

To also check the post-quantum signatures, install @noble/post-quantum next to it; without it they are reported as not checked, never as valid. Keep any head you were given and later run npx pazair-verify witness <day:head> https://www.pazair.ch: if it ever disagrees, your copy is evidence.

What we do not claim

• Not claimed: that nothing can be manipulated. Nobody can promise that.
• Claimed: that any change to the past shows, to anyone, at any time, with or without PazAIr.
• A writer can record a false fact; the chain proves when it was written, not that it was true. Receipts therefore carry the hashes of the input and the delivery.
• PazAIr can stop or delay anchoring. The daily rhythm is public, so silence itself is visible.
• Every scheme is an assumption. SHA-256 keeps 128 bits against a quantum computer; Ed25519 does not, so ML-DSA-65 (FIPS 204) signs alongside it.
